The Skinny, The Scoop: The Adventure Begins
by Tyler Weaver. Follow me on Twitter.

OK, I guess I sort of lied. The adventure hasn’t begun. I’ve been working from home for over two years now, and I’ve accomplished quite a bit in my pajamas.
I’m a filmmaker by passion, and a business-oriented creative by necessity. I’ve run a non-profit (where I was in charge of an in-house publishing company and documentary production company), my own production company, made numerous documentaries, including a feature-length music doc, GATHER ‘ROUND THE MIC, and helped get a new web series off the ground. I’m also currently developing three feature-length films (two narratives and a documentary) with my writing and producing partner, Paul Klein.
Because I haven’t had a script waiting for me on my nightstand, I’m a writer as well, contributing thrice-weekly reviews to the PULP TONE website, an occasional post on television producer Maria Lokken’s site, and I’m the founder and EIC of MULTI-HYPHENATE, a blogazine that features articles from hyphenated creatives from across the spectrum - film, music, photography, comic books, writing - who are fighting the challenges of the Wild West new media landscape head on.
I’m also unemployed (technically, I’m working more than ever - just not getting paid for it), and a music school drop-out. Have I made mistakes? Sure. But I can’t go back and change the past. I can only push forward and grow. Does it mean all is lost? Nope. It just means I have to work harder. And smarter.
And that’s what this whole blog is about. It’s a journey. A quest to work smarter, apply what I’ve learned running a business, working as part of a team, developing and producing films, and attempting to balance all that I do.
I could have made this a new series on Multi-Hyphenate, but it’s not really about film, or being creative. It’s about applying the lessons of being a creative towards business and hopefully reaching a new way of thinking about both.
This blog is about finding that balance between work and life - especially when working from home. It’s about discipline, about perseverance - and its about a journey towards working smarter and being successful.
Thanks for following along on the ride.
